Sometimes a woman cannot be treated adequately for Iron Deficiency Anaemia with oral iron tablets; in this setting sometimes an intravenous iron infusion treatment is used. If the woman is already an inpatient (for example, soon after childbirth) this can be done in Jabiru Ward; if she is an outpatient (for example, during pregnancy and still at home) this can be done as a short-stay admission, usually in the Darwin Private Hospital Day Care Unit. The most commonly used preparation is called “Ferinject”:
